Biodiversity Conservation
The Mangatoi Heritage Park is a 21 hectare (52 acre) tract of land donated by local farmer and conservationist Jim Pendergrast. Around 15 hectares of the Park is currently native bush, with a planting programme in place to re-forest another 4 hectares. Around 2 hectares of flat land will be left as grassland to allow for the development of buildings, car parking and to provide a clean and environmentally friendly campsite for the benefit of schools, universities, and the public. We use volunteers to plant trees, perform regular maintenance duties and help with predator control. No previous experience is required, but you need to be reasonably fit and active.
