Board Chairperson - Grief Support Services
The Board Chair provides strategic governance and leadership to achieve Grief Support Services’ mission; to provide counselling and information for all who experience grief and loss so "no one has to cry alone". Key Roles and Responsibilities 1. Governance and Board Leadership
• Lead the Board of Directors to ensure robust governance, accountability, and alignment with organisational purpose, values, and clinical standards. • Set and manage Board agendas that focus on strategic issues, performance, and risk management. • Foster a high-performing Board culture based on integrity, trust, and collaboration between clinical and business leaders. • Ensure effective Board composition, skills diversity, succession planning, and annual performance evaluation. • Oversee compliance with professional, clinical, and corporate governance standards relevant to private healthcare delivery.
2. Strategic Direction and Organisational Growth
• Guide the organisation’s strategic direction, balancing clinical independence with group-scale advantages and operational efficiency. • Provide governance oversight of business expansion—whether through new clinics, partnerships, or hospital collaborations. • Support innovation in service delivery, including adoption of digital health tools and operational innovation. • Oversee financial performance and sustainability, ensuring the organisation remains competitive while delivering high-quality patient outcomes.
3. GM Partnership
• Act as the key liaison between the Board and General Manager (GM), maintaining a constructive, transparent, and supportive relationship. • Provide mentorship, guidance, and performance oversight to the GM. • Ensure clarity of strategic priorities, financial goals, and operational accountability. • Lead GM recruitment, evaluation, and succession planning processes.
4. Stakeholder Engagement
• Build trusted relationships with management, staff, funders, and sector leaders. • Encourage alignment between governance priorities and the clinical culture of collaboration, quality, and innovation. • Represent the organisation credibly with key external stakeholders. • Promote the organisation’s reputation as a leader in grief support excellence, ethical practice, and patient-centred care.
5. Risk, Compliance, and Quality Oversight
• Ensure appropriate systems are in place for clinical governance, safety, and quality improvement. • Monitor organisational and reputational risks, including regulatory, financial, and professional risks. • Uphold the highest standards of ethics, transparency, and compliance in all clinical and commercial activities.
